WIA
(Workforce Investment Act)
Any customer will have access to the core/employment related services: information on job vacancies; career options; student financial aid; relevant employment trends; and instruction on how to conduct a job search; write a resume; or interview with an employer is available to any job seeker; or anyone who wants to advance his or her career.
WIA (Adult Program)
Intensive services will be provided to unemployed adults and dislocated workers who are unable to obtain employment through core services and require these services to obtain and retain employment, and employed workers who need services to obtain or retain employment that leads to self-sufficiency.
To receive intensive and/or training services under the Adult program you must meet the following:
Eligible Adults Age 18 and Older Must be:
- An enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, residing within the Navajo Nation Local Workforce Investment Area (NNLWIA);
- Other Native Americans residing within the NNLWIA;
- Legal right to work in the United States;
- Male applicants must be registered for the Selective Service;
- Unemployed or underemployed, or have low income;
- Recipient of a bona fide lay-off notice:
- Which has taken effect in the last six months;
- Will take effect in the following six month period, who is unlikely to return to a previous industry or occupation,
- Need of retraining for either employment with another employer or
- Job retention with the current employer
Agency Workforce Centers are responsible for Dislocated Workers/Rapid Response activities in coordination with respective States when a mass layoff and/or plant closure is to occur soon.
WIA (Youth Program)
The Youth services are for individuals to address the needs of youth for further education or employment training. This includes assisting drop-outs in returning back to school or obtaining their high school diploma/GED.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age 14-21 (at time of enrollment);
- An enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, residing within the NNLWIA;
- Legal right to work in the United States;
- Male applicants must be registered with Selective Service;
- Is a Low-income individual (95% Window)
- Is an individual who is one or more of the following and provides documentation for:
- Deficient in basic literacy skills
- A school Dropout
- Homeless, a runaway, or a foster child
- Pregnant or a parent
- An offender
- An individual who requires additional assistance (upon exhaustion of all other resources) to complete an education program, or to secure and hold employment.
- Is not a Low Income (5% Window)
- School Dropout
- Basic Skills Deficient
- Behind Grade Level
- Pregnant or Parenting
- Individual with disabilities
- Homeless or Runaway
- Offender
- Serious barriers to employment as identified by the local board and described in the local plan.
- Planned Youth Services
The WIA Youth program is designed to provide year-round employment and training programs. Eligible in-school youth or out-of-school youth will be provided a variety of services in accordance with NDWD policies and procedures.
